The Society Summer Letter 13th August 2019 Hello to all, I'm sure you have noticed the evenings drawing in, I hope you all had a good summer but with the long winter nights drawing in it would be nice to have something to do and a holiday in Cornwall in the village of Rederring may be just what you need. Rederring is the setting for our 2020 Gilbert and Sullivan production in the Guildhall,February 6th-8th, it is a small and charming little village set upon the Cornish coast but with a rather high proportion of slightly unusual inhabitants, oh and it is also under an ancient Witch’s curse but it's quite a fun place to visit. All of which is a roundabout way of saying "come and join us" for Gilbert and Sullivan's RUDDIGORE, with rehearsals starting on September 5th at Howard School, Parkway, Gaywood, PE30 4QJ. Ruddigore is a show with plenty to do for everyone, both Mens’ and Ladies’ Chorus and also for Principal roles, it is a tale wherein we find a Bad Baronet under a Witch’s curse, a chorus of Professional Bridesmaids, and a portrait gallery that comes to life in the form of ghostly ancestors, so, pretty much normal for Cornwall. Sullivan's music is in a rather English rustic idiom and Gilbert's libretto is convoluted but very funny. Why not come along in September, even if you can't make the first rehearsal, we will be at Howard every Thursday evening and everyone would be pleased to see you. I would like to make the usual plea for help in all aspects of getting a G & S show on the stage. We need people for front of house, publicity, logistics, for help with makeup (a lot of character makeup is needed for this production) and also with costumes. In short, if you know anyone who would like to help we can quite easily find something for them to do. And of course we would welcome anyone who wants to come along and be onstage as part of the show, it's really quite fun, not in the least intimidating and strangely addictive, also we are quite a friendly bunch so if you can think of anyone, friend, acquaintance or relative who would enjoy the experience in any aspect of the society let them know about us.
